Transitions

Sherry and I are entering into a new adventure in our life and ministry. I made the following announcement today at the Sunset Church. It will be difficult to leave Sunset but we are excited about the new challenge. We will be joining the ministry of Mission Resource Network (MRN) www.mrnet.org

Sunset Church of Christ

October 25, 2009

In the life of a disciple as well as the life of a church there are always transitions and new challenges that come our way.  Sherry and I are now facing one of those transitions.  I have informed the Sunset elders that I am resigning as Lead Minister of the Sunset Church of Christ. I have accepted a position with Mission Resource Network (MRN) as Director of Church Equipping. Sherry and I will be moving to Dallas/Ft. Worth after the first of the year.

It is with mixed emotions that Sherry and I are leaving Sunset. Almost all of my ministry experience has been with the Sunset Church. The Sunset eldership has been my spiritual shepherds since 1978. We give God praise and thanks for the wonderful partnership we have enjoyed with the Sunset Church of Christ and with Sunset International Bible Institute. We can say with great confidence that we are not leaving Sunset because of any problems or because of anything negative in our working relationship with Sunset. We are leaving because we are convinced that the mission ministry with MRN is a work to which we are called. Mission is my passion and we are at a time in our life and ministry where we need to focus on our passion and giftedness.

MRN  is a ministry focused on planting churches worldwide. MRN provides resources to missionaries as well as to the congregations that send the mission families. My role with Mission Resource Network will allow me to work with churches around the globe helping them to develop a mission focus; I will be working with missionaries, mission teams and mission churches. Sunset is one of the best mission churches that I know; therefore, I pray that our partnership and relationship will continue as we seek to touch a lost world with the good news of Jesus.

Sherry and I were raised spiritually here at Sunset; we met here, were trained in the Sunset School of Preaching, raised our children here and grew in ministry together with you. We love you and are deeply grateful for the wonderful relationships we have and will continue to have here at Sunset. I have great confidence in our shepherds and their wisdom and ability to guide you through this transition. I have great love, respect and appreciation for the ministry team with which I have been blessed to work.

Words cannot express the gratitude that I have in my heart for our relationship with Sunset and the rich blessing that it has been for me to have such a wonderful working relationship with the Sunset church and eldership. May God continue to use our partnership for his glory and the advancement of his kingdom.

Congrats on the new job Jay! I think this will be a perfect fit for you, although I must admit that I don't want to see you go. You and Sherry are an example to Lori and I, and we sure do look up to you. Thanks for all your hard work and mentoring.

Thanks for the kind words. I do believe it will be a difficult but good transition for us. I am assuming this is Jonathan, if so...Brazil is calling you!
