Seminar in Mexico CIty
On Friday Sherry, Meagan, Ryan and I return to Mexico City to get ready for a seminar I was asked to lead for the church servant leaders. The seminar was held at the Sunset House or "Pink House." I was reminded how the Sunset House has been used as a gather place, a central location, a place to dream, share and find community for the church in Mexico. We had about 40 attending and had a great time together. We shared in a great breakfast of quesadillas, Mexican bread and fruit. We had several times of praise and prayer. The theme was "Buscando Renovacion" or "Seeking Renewal." We discussed from Hebrews 12:1-3 that renewal is found in a relationship with Jesus Christ, listening to Him, following and obeying Him. I have been impressed lately that in our commission (Matthew 28:18-20), we are to baptize followers of Jesus in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. But our mission does not stop there, we are to "teach them to observe or obey everything that Jesus has commanded." He does not say that we are to teach them everything He commanded but rather we are to teach them to obey. This is one area in which I am trying to grow in my own ministry, focusing on "obedience in my teaching."
I taugth the group a Discovery Bible Study method that focuses on listening to the word of God, meditating on the word and thinking through what God is teaching us and then making a commitment to put the word of God into action in our life. They worked in groups and applied that method to Deuteronomy 6:4-9 and to various passages that tell us about our purpose as disciples of Christ and a community of faith, the church.
I was once again impressed with the maturity of my brothers and sisters here in Mexico and their desire to glorify the Lord. The Benito Juarez congregation that meets in the Sunset House has already planned an "all night prayer session" to continue these thoughts and the Tlalpan congregation has committed to host the next seminar for the church leaders. I believe that the church here in Mexico City is ready for some significant growth in the coming years.
Please pray for my brothers and sisters in Mexico as they seek to please the Lord and glorify His name in this massive city.
Sherry and I leave tomorrow to return to the States. Meagan and Ryan will be staying longer and enjoying time together in Mexico City. The Lord has blessed us on this trip and opened our eyes in many ways to His work and will. May God be glorified.
For Mexican Missions,
Jay
